Quotes: How many famous and high-spirited heroes have lived a day too long?
Absolute silence leads to sadness. It is the image of death.
1.)The Natural of Man (good or evil, etc.)
a.) Rousseau asserts that the natural of man is depending how you survive in society. He said when people are born, they are good and they are independent. When they are living in their own rule, own society, and live close to nature, the more they could feel pure mind. He wanted to people live simple, like no luxurious objects. He believe that when human is control by other people like government, the evilness will increase and think government is enslaving citizens. During that time, many philosophers thought no government will make people have freedom, but Rousseau thought about democracy. He thought that citizens have to do what they really want, but it should be close to nature.
2.)Best Form of Government – and why
a.) Rousseau believes that best form of government is democracy in his idea. I think that Rousseau’s democracy idea and modern day democracy is different. The reason is that Rousseau wanted to have no control of government and citizens decide all the law what they want. So I believe that Rousseau wanted the imaginary world, utopia, which means that the perfect world that there are no chaotic events and all people live happily forever. Rousseau wanted the world to become close to nature and assert that the reason and the reason is that the people should be return to positive sides. He maintains his idea and his idea was when people are close to nature, they will become independent, which means that they will become good and fair.
3.) View on Human Rights –be sure to consider Rights of Women
a.) According to the Social Contract (his written book) he believed that children’s education level and social level should be same as an adult just because they are man. From this idea we can see that Rousseau claims that everybody should be fair, and be treated fairly. He also claims that social level and slavery should be stopped and be cleared from this world because these are the start of the unfairness. In the other hand, he thinks man is corrupted from the society because of value and wealth. This means when man is corrupted, he will start to be hungry and starts to eat more and more until he accomplishes his or her goal which then forms dictatorship and starts a new wave of fair and unfair. (the more human involves the more corrupted human are)
Social Contract - Written by Jean Jacques Rousseau
4.) How did they view religion in society?
a.) During 18th century, most of government type was monarchy. According to some friends, I heard that during 18th century, the religious, who was Catholic and Christian, was very strong that everyone has to attend. They didn’t had freedom of choosing religious, but on the other hand, Rousseau thought that every people have freedom of choosing religious. He said everyone doesn’t have to believe religious and he believed Catholic. He thought what God made is incredible beautiful that he might be the start of Romanticism. Romanticism is a style of romantic arts that shows that people have freedom.
5.) The ‘Perfect Society’ – According to the thinker, what would it looks like?
a.) According to Rousseau, he believes that to make utopia, which means perfect society, people should have to abandon all the greed, be close to nature, and have freedom to do anything like free born human. In 18th century, many philosophers thought running away from society will procure freedom. Rousseau thinks that society will forbid the freedom what people were born into. So I think Rousseau wants people to be democracy or live like Dark Age, which is having no government.
i.) “I have always said and felt that true enjoyment cannot be described.” - Jean Jacques Rousseau
6.) How would your thinker critique today’s world? What would they admire and be dismayed by? Be sure to give examples…
a.) In my idea, when Rousseau look at our world, he would be glad a lot due to there are freedom of choosing religions and having many democracy. I believe that he won’t be perfectly glad due to there are still few government controls and few countries on dictatorship. He will admire many people could have free speech, religion, and not have to run away for freedom. The reasons why I choose free speech is because all citizens could voice up their main idea and able to act when they have permission from government. (Rousseau might don’t like of requirements of permission from others.) Free religious, whom Rousseau loved and the government type, which is democracy is very free and government do not restrict the most of action. He might dismay of reducing natural resources, not perfect of humanity, and difference of between poor and rich. The reason why I choose natural resources is because, Rousseau loved nature that he worship and chant to God. The world humanity is not hundred percent equal that there are differences of the cultures that could be very difficult to change and difference of possessions. Rousseau thought that difference of amount of possessions will make unequal to people and there are mammoth difference of wealth and poor.
7. Religion
At the age of 16, Rousseau left his pastor where he was taken care of because he was influenced on becoming a Roman Catholic and he was training to be a Catholic priest.
He also followed the philosophy of John Calvin or Calvinism for the rest of his life after being influence with Roman Catholic. He believed that god made all mankind good but its the society that made mankind bad and that god is good. He also believed that people's believes is more religeous then being forcefully pushed into believing other religeons.
8. Veiw on women's Rights and place in society:
Rousseau belived that it was mans place to be strong and have will power, while women were ment to be meak, weak, and obedant. He belived that men needed a higher education than women, he belived their place was in the kitchen with the children and the men were the bread winners. Rousseau we known for cheating on his wife and had 5 illgimate children, which he ignored, which he was forced to adopt later on.
9. Quotes

“Man is born free, and everywhere he is in shackles.”
“We should not teach children the science; but give them a taste for them.”
